Job Purpose
The News Channel delivers live and breaking news to audiences across the UK and around the world, 24 hours a day. As a Journalism Researcher, you'll pitch ideas and fix guests across a broad range of stories. When a story breaks, we want to speak to guests who can deliver in-depth analysis, react to breaking news, give eyewitness accounts or who can take stories forward with exclusive news lines. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across the BBC to maximise the value of our content and ensure its reach across the organisation.
This role is ideal for a hungry, hardworking, news-savvy producer with a knack for visual storytelling.

Your Responsibilities and Impact
* Pitching ideas for news coverage, and guests for planned and breaking news stories.
* Work well under pressure with a good contacts book and the ability to hit the phones quickly during breaking news events. Be persuasive and encourage guests to speak to the BBC and share their insights.
* Write well-sourced briefs and be confident speaking to presenters ahead of interviews to ensure they are fully prepared.
* Understand the importance of live and breaking news for the BBC News channel, BBC Online and iPlayer, and generate ideas for stories and treatments that would appeal to audiences on these platforms.
* Be a curious and efficient problem solver, a team player who considers various viewpoints on global topics. Thrive as a multi-skilled producer under hourly deadlines.
Your Skills and Experience
* Experience working in a newsroom
* Strong editorial judgement
* Good knowledge of news and current affairs and plugged into the stories of the moment
* A good contacts book
* Proven experience writing scripts and briefs
