Croydon Drop In are looking to recruit a SFP Supervisor to continue to improve children and young peoples mental health services in Croydon. The training forms part of the service transformation initiative delivered by NHS England as part of the Children and Young Peoples Psychological Trainings (CYP-PT) programme. Supervisors will be required to supervise at least one trainee practitioner on their site to meet requirements for this course. All supervisors will be required to individually supervise trainees weekly and additionally in group supervision for CWP practitioners.

Main duties of the job

The SFP supervisor will be responsible for the supervision and management of the SFPs which are training roles within CYP-PT. The post holder will also take a role in developing new services or expanding existing services within the community to support the delivery of CWP skills and facilitate wider service transformation within the local child mental health system this will be done in conjunction with and local service leads and managers. The CWPs will work within Croydon Drop In as part of a team delivering, under the supervision of this post, high-quality; brief outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties within the community.

The SFP Supervisor will support the strategic development of the SFP initiative within their service, under the direction of the service lead.

Job description

There is a requirement to undertake, complete and pass the supervisors course at Kings (KCL).

The course is based at Kings College London, at Denmark Hill campus with some sessions also online.

The training, supervision and service experience will equip the SFPs with the necessary knowledge, attitude and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value driven service.

The SFPs will attend all university based taught and onsite learning days required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The supervisor in this post will also attend a Post Graduate Certificate in CYP-MH Supervision (SFP) course throughout the year (further information to follow). Please note that attending the Supervision course is essential for the BPS accreditation of SFP practitioners. Supervisors are able to attend some of the teaching of the SFPs at KCL, if there are gaps in knowledge.

Person Specification

* Qualification:
Normally a minimum of a second-class Bachelors degree from a UK university or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard in a relevant academic subject (e.g. Psychology, Education, Childhood development, Social Work etc), OR any subject with further training or experience in a relevant field (e.g. Teaching/TA; Learning Support; HCA; Youth Work; Counselling etc)
AND/ORa registerable professional qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. medicine, psychology, social work) from a UK university of overseas professional qualification of an equivalent standards
* Experience:
Candidates will need to be experienced Mental Health professionals as evidenced by 2 years working therapeutically/ clinically within a CYP Mental Health Setting with children and young people with mental health difficulties. They must demonstrate experience of clinically delivering and supervising in the therapeutic approach for which they are applying.
* Strong communication skills
* The ability to work cohesively within small teams
* Motivation to learn and to be challenged
* The ability to use feedback and adapt accordingly
* Good organisational skills
* Experience of working with children and an understanding of how to talk with them
* Commitment to using data and relevant measures to assess clinical outcomes
