Overview
We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Nurse to oversee the healthcare provision for children and young people aged 2-19 with severe, profound, and multiple learning and physical difficulties. In this rewarding role, you will offer expert training, guidance, and support to school staff, parents, and carers - ensuring the best possible care for every child. You will be part of a team supporting the senior school nurse and assistant practitioner within your team, helping to create a collaborative, nurturing environment where everyone can thrive. This role is Term-Time only and will be based at Portesbery School and surrounding Learning and Additional Needs Schools.

Responsibilities
* Deliver safe, high-quality, child-centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.
* Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi-agency work.
* Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.
* Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.
* Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.
* Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence-based practice.
* Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.
* Demonstrate required nursing credentials: RGN and/or RSCN with child and/or learning disability experience.
* Experience of working with children with additional needs.
* Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures.
* Able to communicate effectively; clear, concise written & oral communication.
* Able to work autonomously & prioritise own work effectively.
Qualifications & Desirable
* Desirable: School nurse degree or diploma.
* Experience of working with children with complex health needs.
* Previous working experience in a special school setting.
* Experience of initiating & participating in clinical audits.
* Car driver with valid driving licence.
