We are forming a new Enhanced Support Service (ESS) at HMP Wormwood Scrubs and are looking for a dynamic, high calibre, motivated and enthusiastic Senior Nurse Practitioner who is committed to and passionate about working in Prison environment.
Main duties of the job
The Enhanced Support Service (ESS) at HMP Wormwood Scrubs is looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Senior Nurse Practitioner who is committed to and passionate about working in Prison environment.
The ESS is a multi-disciplinary team who work with a small caseload of prisoners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, whose behaviour is complex and challenging, and whose engagement with the normal regime of the prison is considered problematic.
The ESS is commissioned by NHSE and the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway.
What does the work involve?
The ESS team ( comprised of a nurse, a prison officer and a psychologist) work intensively in pairs with prisoners for approximately 12 weeks, with the overarching aims being to improve their psychological wellbeing and reduce the frequency of challenging behaviour using detailed formulations and trauma informed interventions.
This can include helping the individual:
* to understand their current situation,
* to recognise how their behaviour affects themselves and those around them,
* to identify personal goals and learn how to achieve these goals,
* to learn to work collaboratively with staff and other prisoners.

Within this role, you will have access to intensive supervision, both individual and as a group, from the mental health team's Therapy Lead/Lead Psychologist. You will be supported to access relevant training, and will be able to access opportunities both across the NHS Trust and through the Offender Personality Disorder Pathway.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
* Registered Mental Health Nurse Degree
Desirable criteria
* Msc
* PG Diploma in Personality Disorder
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
* Experience of working within a secure/forensic or prison setting
* Experience of working with challenging and complex patients
* Either currently working as a Band 7 or at least 1 years’ experience of working at Band 6 level
Desirable criteria
* Experience of working with high risk/high harm individuals or with challenging behaviour
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Essential criteria
* The ability to work in often difficult circumstances within a high pressured environment
* Experience of carrying out complex assessments including risk
