Overview
We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join our Kier Design team based in Norwich. You will work within Kier’s 750‑strong internal consultancy, Kier Design, supporting the delivery of Civil & Structure Engineering services. The role involves contributing to the delivery of complex projects by providing solutions that are safe and buildable while achieving clients’ goals. Location: Norwich – remote working available, with occasional travel to the office required. Hours: 40 hours per week – some flexibility on hours is available if desired.
Responsibilities
* Support the Structures & Geotechnical team in delivering infrastructure projects across diverse sectors, including Civil & Structural, MEICA, temporary and permanent works.
* Design permanent works for structures, highways, geotechnics and infrastructure within an integrated design and construct offering.
* Provide temporary works considerations above and below ground in all materials, integrated with permanent works design as applicable.
* Support tender and bid submissions with outline designs, feasibility studies and value‑engineering solutions.
* Conduct technical assessments and reviews of third‑party designs to ensure they meet client and Kier requirements.
* Undertake site visits, surveys and inspections, providing technical advice on safety and construction matters.
* Manage project deliverables including calculations, CAD drawings, reports and risk assessments while maintaining quality standards.
Qualifications
* Completed a relevant professional institution IPD (e.g., IEng, EngTech or CEng) with relevant experience, or hold a Level 6 or 7 qualification with appropriate experience.
* Hold a full UK driving licence.
* Commitment to acting safely, ethically and with care for the environment and communities.
