Overview
Technical Services consultant (Policy, Rules and Legislation). An exciting opportunity to join Member Services as a Technical Services Consultant focusing on ensuring that Railpen administers schemes in accordance with their rules and pensions legislation and on steering administration policy. This is a permanent role within Railpen’s Technical Policy and Services team based in our Darlington office with home working and travel to the Darlington office as required.
Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of several pension schemes, including the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK’s largest and longest established pension funds. Railpen serves its members with a holistic approach to pension needs and aims to positively impact the communities the members retire into. Our values are integrity, community and alignment.
The Role
As a Technical Services Consultant (Policy, Rules and Legislation), you will provide pensions technical support to the Technical Policy and Services team and other areas of the business to ensure Railpen administers the rail schemes in accordance with their rules, pensions legislation and the regulatory regime. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the rail schemes’ rules and the wider pensions environment, and how changes impact administration processes and members’ benefits, to help develop administrative policy and practices. You will share this knowledge with other stakeholders.
The Person
We are looking for someone with an in‑depth understanding of the UK pensions regime and general pension administration processes, and a solid grasp of scheme rules and pensions taxation legislation. A background in the pensions industry is key, with a technical focus and commitment to staying up to date on emerging pensions developments. Knowledge of defined benefit pensions is essential; knowledge of defined contribution arrangements would be beneficial. The successful candidate will have strong analytical and investigative skills, will clearly document their work, and will communicate effectively in writing and verbally. You should be customer service driven with the ability to balance priorities and workloads while meeting service-level agreements and proactively managing expectations. Collaboration and an open mindset are important.
