Overview
The successful applicant will form an expanded team of 14 whole time equivalent Consultants in Acute Medicine, taking it to full establishment and will be based at East Surrey Hospital. The Acute Medicine team and service have been developed significantly over the last 10 years and its onward development is in line with RCP guidance across the trust. The department is now looking to develop its services in short stay medicine and sub‑specialty interests. Opportunities for special interests are available within the job plan including ambulatory care, point‑of‑care ultrasound and teaching, in addition to specialty areas such as Stroke, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Rheumatology and Elderly care and Frailty services. These posts are a substantive appointment and we would welcome applications from those who are post‑CCT in Acute Medicine. The applicant would be assigned a senior Consultant mentor to support their development.
Responsibilities
* Lead service developments in the Trust, particularly in short stay medicine and sub‑specialty areas.
* Support and develop bedside focused acute medical ultrasound, working with the existing FAMUS, FUSIC, and BSE accredited supervisors.
* Contribute to teaching, including support for honorary teaching posts.
* Mentored by a senior Consultant.
Qualifications
* Post‑CCT in Acute Medicine.
* Wide experience in Acute and General Medicine.
* Excellent team‑working skills.
* Professional skills to lead service developments in the Trust.
* Experience or interest in bedside focused acute medical ultrasound.
* Teaching skills are an advantage.

Successful candidates will be appointed to the first pay step within the band when they start with the Trust (unless they have previous relevant NHS continuous service) and will progress up the pay steps according to NHS Agenda for Change terms and conditions. For part‑time roles a pro‑rata salary payment will be made in accordance with AfC and all medical and dental terms and conditions.
