Histopathology Training Lead / Advanced Biomedical Scientist
We are looking for an enthusiastic and pro‑active Biomedical Scientist who is professional, reliable, innovative and flexible to join our friendly and hardworking team in our Histopathology department as the Training Lead across Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals.
In this role you will be responsible for the development and delivery of an efficient and effective UKAS‑compliant programme of training and competency assessment across the Histopathology Service. You will play an integral part in day‑to‑day training, facilitating staff development and careers, and liaising with all levels of histopathology staff to support their training needs.
Main duties of the job
* Facilitate the training and development needs for all staff in the Histology Service (excluding Medical Consultants).
* Ensure that the training and development needs of the Histology staff are identified, communicated effectively and recorded.
* Develop and maintain a system of recording training and development that meets ISO 15189: standards for the Histology Service.
* Under the direction of the service lead, organise training and development for staff of the Histology Service and users of its services.
* Maintain own competence and contribute in technical areas upon the requirements of the service.
Qualifications
* HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent.
* Appropriate Post Graduate qualifications such as IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, IBMS Specialist Diploma in Biomedical Science (Histology), Masters or equivalent, or working towards.
* Evidence of CPD.
* Qualification supporting management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with the post.
* European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory and practice relevant to the post.
* Previous relevant experience of working in a Histopathology Laboratory to band 6 level – significant post‑registration experience in a UKAS accredited and IBMS approved training laboratory.
* Experience of training staff.
* Experience of involvement with UKAS assessments.
* Experience of pathology IT systems.
* Practical experience of quality management systems.
* Experience of writing SOPs and policies.
* Previous experience in staff leadership / mentoring.
Knowledge
* Highly specialist histopathology knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory and practice relevant to the post.
* Good understanding of UKAS standards.
* Biomedical scientist dissection knowledge.
