The Role
Are you passionate about delivering high-quality pension services and supporting others to do the same? Cornwall Council is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Pensions Technical Officer to join our dedicated Pensions Team. This is a frontline role where you’ll be responsible for calculating and verifying benefit awards under the Local Government Pension Scheme and the Firefighters’ Pension Schemes.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of pension benefit calculations, supporting over 45,000 scheme members. Your responsibilities will include interpreting complex pension regulations, mentoring junior team members, and providing expert guidance to scheme members.
This is a dynamic and evolving role that requires adaptability, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent service in a regulatory environment.
Working Pattern
You will be required to work from Pydar House, Truro a minimum of two days per week, and on occasion to support other areas of the team participate in a phone rota covering 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
To thrive in this role, you will need:
* Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with a minimum of GCSE grade A–C (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex pension information clearly to a wide range of audiences.
* Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
* The ability to work effectively under pressure, meet statutory deadlines, and contribute to a high-performing team.
* A proactive approach to mentoring and training colleagues, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
