The post holder will work within the Trust-wide Chaplaincy Service and take responsibility for delivering highly skilled, compassionate pastoral, spiritual and religious support for Jewish patients, carers and staff across the organisation. They will be authorised and accredited to practise as a recognised Jewish faith chaplain and provide effective support that demonstrates the Trust's values and behaviours, acting as a role model across managed sites.

The post holder will support the Group Chaplaincy Manager to provide an efficient, effective spiritual care service, enhancing the experience of patients and colleagues.

They will work autonomously within Jewish chaplaincy and use professional judgment to determine when to refer to the Chaplaincy Manager.

MAIN DUTIES

Provide pastoral, religious and spiritual support to distressed patients, relatives, carers and the bereaved, including bedside prayers, listening and advocacy.

Plan and support Jewish religious services and observances appropriate to the healthcare setting ensuring inclusion and safeguarding.

Lead or facilitate appropriate rites at the bedside and arrange access to religious items in line with Trust policy and infection control.

Advise on Jewish law and custom in healthcare contexts

Provide support around pregnancy loss, neonatal death and stillbirth in line with Jewish pastoral practice and family preferences.

Coordinate with Bereavement Services and external partners regarding burial requests, and sensitivities concerning post-mortem/organ donation

Support the Chaplaincy Manager in delivering pastoral care across the organisation and within their area of responsibility; work respectfully alongside all healthcare professionals.

Contribute as an active member of the Corporate Patient Services Department and provide feedback on developing policies affecting spiritual care.

Develop links with ward teams and managers to integrate spiritual care into patient pathways.

Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information (e.g., family conflict, faith identity, end-of-life choices) with tact and discretion.

Abide by the UKBHC Code of Conduct and act in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and values.
