Waterloo House Surgery is a busy medical practice proudly serving the Millom and Haverigg community. We are currently seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team on a bank contract basis.
We are a busy general practice seeking an experienced HCA/Phlebotomist to work flexibly covering staff absences, busy periods, and occasional Saturdays. Experience in general practice or community healthcare is preferred. Salary is dependent on experience, and the role is available immediately for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job
You will carry out a range of duties in caring for patients including providing treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education. You will also carry out the necessary supporting administrative duties e.g. record keeping, monitoring equipment levels etc.

Job responsibilities

Toassist in providing high quality patient care
Tocarry out basic patient observations, blood sugar, ECG recording and urinalysis as requested bythe GP practice
Tocarry out venepuncture as requested by the GP practice
Tocarry out simple dressings as agreed.
Tocontribute to housekeeping and other duties as required, e.g. generaltidiness, replenishment of stock and ensure clinical equipment is clean, ingood working order and stored correctly.
Toact as chaperone and support patients during examinations
Toundertake training to acquire the skills appropriate for development in thepost
Tocarry out other tasks in line with the HCA level of competency as requestedby the GP practice and/or Cumbria Health clinicians and management team.
MANAGINGPATIENT CARE/CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Toassist in the safe handling and moving of patients, adhering to H&Sguidelines and protocols at all times
Torespond to needs of the patients with patience and empathy, promoting privacyand dignity
Toreview equipment,, identify faults andfeedback to the line manager
Toreport all accidents, incidents and complaints to the line manager or accordingto policy as appropriate eg Adverse Incidents.
Toreport any issues that may put health, safety and security at risk followingthe risk assessment process
Toensure that a safe environment is created and maintained for all patients,visitors and work colleagues
Toclean and decontaminate consultation room between patients & undertakegeneral housekeeping
COMMUNICATION
Toactively maintain the patient consultation record so that it is complete andaccurate in line with legal requirements.
