Successful candidates will support decommissioning projects in the UK and worldwide, working as part of multi-discipline teams. Responsibilities will focus on tasks outlined below, with an expectation to support other team members as needed. Candidates will primarily be based in Whitehaven, but depending on experience, may be based at Warrington/Manchester, Silchester, or other UK offices.

If these qualities resonate with you, this role might be for you. As a Characterisation Engineer, you will support AtkinsRéalis’ Characterisation Team, at Assistant or Engineer level depending on your experience. Tasks include:
* Developing and implementing characterisation strategies, reviewing data, managing plans, analyzing data, and determining waste classification and disposal routes
* Supporting various projects, locations, and clients, solving complex problems with innovative solutions, and supporting team development
* Engaging in business development, strategic decision-making, governance, and preparing bids and proposals
* Managing work packages, interfacing with commercial managers, and mentoring team members
Requirements:
Preferred experience includes:
* Application of characterisation processes (e.g., DQO) for radioactive and non-radioactive waste, involving report writing and data processing using software like VSP
* Knowledge of radiochemical analysis, radiological fingerprints, instrumentation, and activity assessment using software such as Microshield and Mercurad
* Understanding of waste management legislation and waste routing options
* Experience working on nuclear licensed sites in waste or characterisation roles
* Interpersonal skills, flexibility, and willingness to travel
