The role
Protocol Education is working with a primary school in Yate that is looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEN Learning Support Assistant to support a pupil with additional needs. This role involves providing individual support throughout the school day, helping a child access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential in a supportive classroom environment. Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is desirable, particularly autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or social, emotional and mental health needs. However, we also welcome applicants from backgrounds such as care, youth work, support work, coaching, or mentoring. Key responsibilities: Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with additional learning needs Supporting the pupil's academic, social, and emotional development Adapting activities and learning tasks to meet individual needs Encouraging engagement, independence, and confidence Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and parents to support progress Promoting a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment The ideal candidate will: Have experience working with children or young people Be patient, nurturing, and reliable Have strong communication and relationship-building skills Be able to adapt their approach to meet individual needs Have experience supporting SEN, although this is not essential What Protocol Education offers: Weekly PAYE pay Free access to professional development and CPD training Dedicated consultant support throughout your placement Opportunities across mainstream and specialist settings Referral bonus scheme Compliance and Safeguarding All applicants will be subject to Protocol Education's safer recruitment and compliance procedures, including: An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one Two professional references covering the last two years of employment, with any gaps in employment accounted for Verification of identity, right to work, and employment history Full safeguarding and vetting checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidance This role would suit someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them succeed both academically and personally.
