Job overview
The post holder will be an independent Consultant Therapy Radiographer for Breast cancer and Palliative Radiotherapy, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Therapeutic Radiographer. They will be accountable for delivering high-quality care with a high degree of autonomy. The role encompasses the four core functions of the Consultant Therapy Radiographer: expert practice, professional leadership and consultancy, education and training, and practice and service development. Responsibilities include managing new patient referrals, obtaining informed consent, treatment planning, prescribing radiotherapy, approving complex plans, participating in MDT pathways, and collecting treatment outcomes. The post also involves mentorship, clinical supervision, research, and acting as Principal Investigator, scheduled into the job plan.
Entry point will be 70% of the top of band 8B under Annex 21 or the current salary if higher, with pay protection. Progression to band 8B occurs after training and successful completion of MSc modules and competencies in the relevant field.
Main duties of the job
* Practice at an expert level, providing care for patients undergoing radiotherapy for breast cancer and palliative indications.
* Prescribe within protocols and plan radiotherapy treatment, including review and approval of treatment plans.
* Act as an expert resource for patients receiving radiotherapy for breast cancer and collaborate with the MDT.
* Train healthcare professionals in radiotherapy treatment of prostate cancer and its management.
* Provide specialist services, including assessment, follow-up, prescribing radiotherapy, and independent prescribing of medication as required.
* Offer professional, clinical, and managerial advice for prostate cancer management.
* Conduct audit and research in breast cancer and related areas.
* Contribute to the development of breast cancer and palliative services and to strategic initiatives within the Trust.
* Promote the role through publications and conference presentations.
