A specialist SEN provision in the Peterlee area is seeking a Trainee SEN Teaching Assistant to work with pupils aged 5–11 years with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The Role You will support pupils in a structured environment designed to meet the needs of learners who benefit from routine, visual learning and personalised support. Responsibilities include: Providing 1:1 support for pupils with Autism Supporting structured learning sessions using visual timetables and sensory resources Helping pupils understand instructions and classroom expectations Supporting communication using visual prompts and structured routines Assisting with behaviour regulation strategies Encouraging independence and confidence Supporting pupils during life skills and social development sessions Training & Experience Experience working with SEN or Autism is beneficial but not essential. Candidates without previous school experience may start on a trainee scale, receiving training and mentoring from experienced SEN professionals.
