Senior Enhanced Care Practitioner Interstitial lung disease – North Bristol NHS Trust
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse with respiratory knowledge and a special interest in Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). The role supports your professional development and delivers high-quality, patient‑centred care in partnership with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
* Support and educate patients and families in nurse‑led clinics.
* Manage the care pathway of ILD patients.
* Engage with the wider MDT to identify service improvement opportunities and act as a change agent.
* Maintain accurate data entry and database management.
* Demonstrate the skills, knowledge and expertise required to deliver care within the speciality.
* Develop networks and promote links with nurses and other healthcare professionals locally and nationally.
* Act as a specialist resource for patient and MDT learning and development needs, including planning and developing treatment plans and care options.
* Develop own knowledge by attending conferences and study days and maintain own portfolio.
* Operate nurse‑led telephone clinics using local guidelines for ILD.
* Respond to helpline calls, manage calls appropriately and seek medical assistance when necessary.
* Prescribe oxygen appropriately and educate patients on safe usage.
* Provide breathlessness management advice (breathing techniques, exercise, pulmonary rehabilitation, pacing, energy conservation).
* Assist with initiation and management of antifibrotic therapies and immunosuppressive medications.
* Participate in patient support groups and laboratory drug‑monitoring clinics.
* Support research and audit, and assist in identifying suitable patients for clinical trials.
* Educate and support patients and families requiring palliative care.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
* Ability to act independently, resolve complex clinical situations and make sound decisions.
* Experience managing ILD patients.
* Ability to interpret and apply best practice, and promote its use.
* Flexible within the role and able to prioritise service needs.
* Sound understanding of professional priorities and issues.
Additional Information
The successful applicant will normally commence at the minimum of the NHS pay scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression is by annual increments.
