At Over The Rainbow Day Care, our ethos is to provide a safe, happy and healthy environment where children can thrive. We are seeking a dedicated Third in Charge / Room Leader to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the smooth running of the nursery, leading one of our rooms while also supporting the Nursery Managers with operational and leadership duties.
Job Purpose
The Third in Charge / Room Leader will:
* Take day-to-day responsibility for leading their room, ensuring high standards of care, learning and safeguarding in line with the EYFS.
* Act as the third in charge of the nursery, supporting the Nursery Managers with leadership and operational duties and providing cover for management when required.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
* Oversee the daily running of your allocated room, creating a nurturing, stimulating and safe environment.
* Supervise and support staff in your room, leading by example and ensuring positive teamwork.
* Support the Managers with wider nursery operations, including compliance, staff supervision and maintaining high standards.
* Step into a leadership role when required, supporting with decision-making and parent communication.
* Mentor and guide new or less experienced staff members.
Children's Learning & Development
* Plan, implement and evaluate engaging and age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS.
* Observe, assess and record children's progress, ensuring their individual needs are met.
* Promote children's independence, curiosity and wellbeing through purposeful play.
* Ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures are always followed.
Parents & Partnerships
* Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents and carers.
* Communicate effectively about children's progress, wellbeing and any concerns.
* Work in partnership with external professionals where required (e.g. health visitors, SENCO).
Health & Safety
* Ensure the room and wider nursery meet health, safety and hygiene standards at all times.
* Support risk assessments and promote safe working practices.
* Report concerns promptly and follow nursery policies.
Qualifications & Experience
* Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (NNEB, CACHE, NVQ or equivalent).
* Proven experience working in a childcare setting, ideally with some supervisory responsibilities.
* Strong knowledge of the EYFS, safeguarding and health and safety.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills.
* A positive, professional and flexible attitude.
* Passion for nurturing children's development and wellbeing.

Pay and Hours
The hourly rate will start from £13.50, with the opportunity for a higher rate depending on the skills and experience you demonstrate in the role.
We can offer flexible days to suit the right candidate and are open to both full-time and part-time arrangements. Please note some shifts may be scheduled up to 6.00pm.
