Probation Employment Pathway Eligibility

Probation Employment Pathway (PEP) is a recruitment scheme supporting individuals with criminal convictions who face employment barriers.

PEP is open to those who within the last 10 years have received:

* A custodial conviction and been released from prison
* A conviction resulting in a community sentence
* An out of court disposal

PEP is an exception to fair and open competition and is only open to eligible applicants. Successful candidates will be offered up to a 2-year fixed-term appointment under an accredited scheme within Civil Service Recruitment Principles.

Please note: These are fixed-term positions and only eligible for people with lived experience.

Additional role details:

* Flexible start times from 7:00 AM to 4:45 PM, including weekend shifts.
* One full-time position available, with a work pattern including at least one weekend day, with days to be agreed.
* Candidates must hold a full UK Manual Driving Licence; automatic licences only are not accepted.

Overview of the job

This operational role involves supervising work groups of offenders serving community sentences, including driving service vehicles. Responsibilities include site supervision, working with service users, and demonstrating good practice.


Summary

The post involves working on projects that provide credible community punishment, exercising authority to maintain discipline, and supporting service users to gain employment skills. Weekend work may be required, and work may involve volunteers or partner organization staff.


Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

* Conduct induction sessions and daily safety talks.
* Follow work directions and ensure health & safety procedures are followed.
* Manage tools, equipment, and supplies safely.
* Perform risk assessments and motivate service users.
* Monitor attendance and maintain records.
* Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments.
* Promote Community Payback with colleagues and external agencies.

All staff must demonstrate commitment to equality and confidentiality. The role's duties are not exhaustive and may include additional tasks. Candidates must be fluent in English (or Welsh in Wales).


Civil Service Success Profile Criteria

Behaviours include Managing a Quality Service, Working Together, Communicating and Influencing, Leadership.

Experience required:

* Practical skills, teamwork, interpersonal skills, problem-solving, safety knowledge.

Technical requirements include First Aid, IOSH L3 or equivalent, and assessing vocational achievement.

Ability to model pro-social behaviour and communicate effectively in writing.


Additional Information

Application involves completing a form with behavioural and experience questions. Successful candidates will be appointed in merit order, with location preferences considered. The starting salary is £26,475, with potential annual pay progression.

The MoJ offers hybrid working, flexible hours, and a range of benefits including pension, training, networks, and family-friendly policies. Applications are open to UK nationals and certain other eligible groups, with a reserve list valid for 12 months.
