Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Focus as a Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, working in our NHS Hull Talking Therapies Service. This is a full‑time training contract comprising of four days per week in service and one day per week of training at the University of Sheffield. Successful completion of the course will lead to a Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions and a permanent contract with Focus as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner. The training year will equip you with the essential skills needed to deliver assessments and NICE recommended, evidence‑based treatments. Once qualified you will gain access to further career development and progression opportunities throughout your career with Focus. The starting salary is equivalent to NHS Band 4 whilst training, rising on successful completion of the qualification. Recruitment includes a two‑stage interview process. If successful at first interview with Focus you will be invited to a second interview with the University of Sheffield. The second interview will include a role‑play. First interviews will be held online on Monday 24th November 2025. A welcome & information session for all shortlisted candidates will also be held on Wednesday 19th November 2025 10.00am‑11.00am in‑person at our centre in Hull. Start date in service is Monday 2nd March 2026 and at the University of Sheffield the following Tuesday 10th March 2026.
Responsibilities
Clinical
* Accept referrals via agreed service protocols.
* Assess clients for suitability for CBT; refer to Senior Therapist: LI CBT where problems are too complex or severe.
* Provide a range of low intensity interventions, including guided self‑help, face‑to‑face, by telephone or online.
* Adhere to waiting times, session frequency, review and discharge guidelines.
* Attend clinical and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Maintain coherent records in line with service requirements.
Training & Supervision
* Attend all training sessions and fulfil training element requirements.
* Apply learning from the training programme into clinical practice.
* Attend supervision sessions as required.
Performance & Quality
* Deliver interventions in line with key performance indicators, including recovery rates, patient choice and experience.
* Keep up to date with changes in policy, good practice and legislation relating to mental health and NHS Talking Therapies services.
* Be aware of and keep up to date with developments in the field of CBT.
* Contribute to the development of best practice within the service.
* Attend line‑management meetings, including supervision and appraisal, in accordance with Focus policy.
General
* Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
* Work with the highest regard to Focus policies and procedures, including health and safety, escalating issues and concerns as appropriate.
* Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with Focus policy and statutory guidance.
* Undertake any additional duties as deemed appropriate.
Qualifications
Essential
* Previous study at degree level or equivalent.
* Ability to undertake study at post‑graduate level.
* Previous experience of working in a mental health setting or equivalent.
* Ability to work under pressure, including prioritising workload and excellent time‑management skills.
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to reflect upon feedback and apply learning into practice.
* Car driver and/or ability to work across all locations within the service.
Desirable
* Previous training and/or work within nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or psychological therapy.
* Previous experience of working in an NHS Talking Therapies/primary care setting.
