You will need to build strong relationships with the colleagues to ensure that financial information and advice provided is simple, accurate, insightful, forward thinking and enables decision making. This is a pivotal time to join the team as we support stakeholders to move towards a multi-year budgeting cycle and a new spending review settlement. The post holder will also have an opportunity to support UKRI in changing the way we manage OpEx budgets and the processes we follow. This can involve gaining an understanding of OpEx budgets across all UKRI Business Units, helping to drive harmonisation and improvements. Key Areas of Accountability: Leadership / teamwork / collaboration Build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, provide input and advice where needed to assist in the resolution of queries and to share new ways of working. Act as the day-to-day lead for finance issues, working closely with stakeholders to ensure that expenditure is in line with the forecast position and major financial risks are effectively managed. Support other Management Accountants in the wider team, providing cover as and when required. Provide constructive ideas for improvement in processes & procedures that would deliver further efficiencies & service enhancement. Be the specialist/owner for specific finance tasks and Act as a role model by promoting a team-based culture; motivating colleagues to deliver consistently high levels of performance & continuous improvement. Delivery / programmes / projects / process Responsible for completing the month end process in-line with agreed reporting procedures including accruals and prepayments, recharges & counterparties, and any other applicable accounting adjustments; communicating any key timelines, as necessary. Prepare month-end reports and analysis to support budget managers & FBP's in their day-to-day decision making; highlighting any issues or concerns as appropriate. Provide other periodic and ad hoc reports, financial information and commentary as required. Collaborate closely with financial accounting team on cash flow. Model future commitments & produce management information on these for budgeting, forecasting and planning. Manage cost centre & project structures, ensuring that these are effective in managing & reporting on expenditure. Keep up to date with all relevant accounting developments that have a potential impact on your role and UKRI finance & accounting in general. Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience: (S) - Assessed at shortlisting (I) - Assessed at interview (S&I) - Assessed at both shortlisting and interview Qualifications: AAT Qualified and/or Part Qualified Accountant (CCAB, CIMA), actively studying towards qualification. (S) Experience & knowledge: Experience in similar management accounting, budgeting, and forecasting role(s) (S&I) Experience of working in a Finance environment (S) Experience of financial modelling & controls (S&I) Good IT skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. (S) Experience of Oracle, or of similar ERP accounting systems (desirable) (S) Skills & abilities: Good organisational skills: able to prioritise workload as necessary and to work to demanding timelines. Strong numeracy and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present financial information. Good written and oral communication including presentation skills. Effective team worker, able to support colleagues and work flexibly on their own initiative. Able to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. Good problem-solving skills: able to resolve issues independently whilst knowing when to consult or take advice.
