Overview
We require an enthusiastic Occupational Therapist with an interest in working in the Acute physical setting to join our team. This is a fixed term post for 7 months starting no earlier than 1 May 2026. This post could also suit those seeking to develop higher Band 5 skills; you will be supported by experienced staff and will have the opportunity to develop both clinical and leadership skills.
Responsibilities and Rotation
The post will be based mainly at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI) within the Therapies Department. The rotational programme (6 monthly) enables you to develop skills clinically and in the Leadership pillar of practice, and to gain experience across a range of acute hospital specialties including:
* Medical / Surgical – including Emergency Department and Admissions Unit
* Orthopaedics
* Rehabilitation
* Medicine for the Elderly
You may also be able to complete a new rotation between DGRI and the Community Rehab Unit based at Mountainhall Treatment Centre, Dumfries. This will allow you to deliver rehabilitation services and provide ongoing rehabilitation for patients either as outpatients or within their own homes. Ability to travel independently is required for this Community rotation.
Working Pattern and CPD
The Acute OT service currently provides a 7 day service and you would be expected to work at weekends and Public Holidays as part of an agreed rota. This will be discussed at interview.
The service offers a friendly and supportive working environment which actively supports CPD along with an established supervision appraisal system (TURAS) and work-based training.
