Role Overview: The Platform Engineer combines hands-on support responsibilities with strategic engineering to ensure the reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement of our enterprise platform infrastructure. This role will join our Platform Product team who are responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing core platform services that underpin critical business operations, including technologies such as Active Directory, MECM, SolarWinds, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and User Access Devices (UADs), alongside broader networking, compute, storage, virtualisation and hyper converged infrastructures. The role also provides monitoring, troubleshooting, and escalation support to maintain system stability, resolve incidents efficiently, and ensure a high level of user satisfaction. In parallel, it emphasizes automation, performance optimization, and proactive enhancement of platform services to reduce manual effort, improve operational efficiency, and enable scalable, resilient infrastructure. Prolinx operates within an Agile Scrum methodology, focusing on collaboration and rapid delivery. The Platform Engineer will actively participate in bi-weekly sprint review / planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives to iterate on product features and improve our processes. Prolinx engineering teams are self-organizing and cross-functional, utilizing tools like Jira to manage the backlog and ensure high-quality, incremental releases. Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities: Adhere to Prolinx engineering principles and standards, ensuring all practices align with Prolinx Security Policies and Secure by Design principles. Design, implement, manage and support the enterprise platform infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage, and technologies such as Active Directory, MECM, SolarWinds, and VDI environments. Monitor platform performance and availability, proactively responding to alerts, incidents, and service degradation to meet business requirements and SLAs. Troubleshoot and resolve platform-related issues, performing root cause analysis and escalating where necessary to ensure timely resolution and prevent recurrence. Automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, patching, and deployment processes using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or Terraform to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. Administer system updates, patch management, and maintenance activities to ensure platform security, compliance, and stability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support User Access Devices (UADs), endpoint management, and virtualized environments. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including runbooks, troubleshooting guides, knowledge base articles, and architecture diagrams. Support capacity planning and performance optimization through analysis of system usage, trends, and metrics. Evaluate and recommend improvements to tools, technologies, and processes to enhance platform reliability and operational efficiency. Provide technical guidance and contribute to platform-related projects, acting as a subject matter expert where required. Optional participation in a bounty-based team on-call pager system for response to out-of-hours incidents, minimizing any downtime or disruption to services. Skills, Knowledge, and Experiences: Essential Demonstrable experience in platform engineering, infrastructure support, or a similar role within enterprise environments. Experience with virtualization platforms such as Nutanix, VMware, Citrix, or Hyper-V. Understanding of networking concepts (e.g., DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls, switching), compute/storage systems and virtualisation platforms. Experience with IT monitoring tools, incident management processes, and performance tuning, including capacity planning. Familiarity with endpoint management and User Access Device (UAD) ecosystems in enterprise environments. Awareness of Software Defined Data Centre technologies and Hyper Converged Infrastructures (HCI). Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on effective resolution and root cause analysis. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical teams and support non-technical stakeholders. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage, document, and track complex systems, incidents, and processes effectively. Proactive and adaptable mindset, with a commitment to continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies and automation practices. Commitment to ongoing professional development in platform technologies and support methodologies. Desirable Strong expertise in managing and troubleshooting enterprise technologies, including Active Directory, MECM (SCCM), SolarWinds, and related platforms. Working knowledge of on-premise Microsoft Technologies including Exchange, SharePoint, Skype for Business and SQL Server. Strong knowledge and experience in enterprise wireless networking. Working knowledge / experience of Software Defined Data Centre technologies and or HCI. Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash, with hands-on experience developing and deploying automation solutions using tools like Ansible or Terraform. Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Oracle or Google. Knowledge / Experience / Certifications in areas such as Microsoft Technologies, Nutanix Cloud Platform, Redhat, ITIL, or similar.
