Highbury Hospital is a purposed designed Adult Mental Health Inpatient service located in Nottingham.

The hospital has 4 single sex wards, 1 PICU ward, and a hospital-based place of safety (Section 136 suite) all providing single person accommodation with en-suites. Highbury Hospital provide high quality care 24 hours a day 7 days a week to people over the age of 18 from Nottingham City and County who are experience a range of mental health and emotional difficulties.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.


Main duties of the job

We are seeking a proactive, compassionate, caring and recovery focused HCPC registered Occupational Therapist with excellent communication skills to join our existing dynamic multidisciplinary teams to be involved in holistic assessments and interventions to support the planning and delivery of patient care. The multidisciplinary teams all work in a way that is collaborative, evidenced based and responsive to people’s needs.

The Mental Health Care Group of Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation Trust comprises of three care units; Adult Mental Health, Mental Health Services for Older People and Specialist Services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To effectively plan and implement high quality Occupational Therapy input with Service Users on the acute adult mental health wards at Highbury Hospital, Nottingham.

You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and will provide a variety of individual and group occupational therapy interventions to a diverse range of service users, both on the wards, in the therapy area and when appropriate in patients homes.

You will liaise with a range of agencies and services across Nottinghamshire.

You will manage a variable clinical caseload, working with people with a diverse range of needs towards an effective discharge from hospital.

Professional and clinical supervision will be provided by an identified Occupational Therapist and you will link into the wider network in Nottinghamshire working co-operatively with colleagues to ensure high quality service provision and gain opportunities for support and Continued Professional Development.

Please note that this post does not meet the pay or skill level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the
bottom of the band in line with Agenda for Change. This salary is below the minimum
salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these
circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker/Health & Care visa.

* Evidence of recent continuing professional development

Experience

* Occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, delivery and evaluation in an acute mental health setting.
* Planning and running a variety of individual and group interventions.
* Effective team working.
* Liaison with other agencies, services and professional colleagues
* Experience of the occupational therapy process in other services
* Student/staff supervision


Knowledge

* Patient-focused approaches such as Recovery and user/carer involvement.
* Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and current mental health issues.
* Knowledge of assessment, treatment and evaluation approaches used in mental health.
* Awareness of health and safety and clinical risk issues.


Skills

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Good communication, negotiation and liaison skills.
* Basic IT skills.
* Ability to demonstrate a non-judgmental attitude
* Adaptability and flexibility.
* Motivational skills.
* Ability to respond appropriately to quickly changing situations
