Community Childrens Special School Nurse
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 6 Special School Nurse to join the Children's Community Nursing Service at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust. This rewarding role is within a well‐established Special School Nursing Team, supporting nine special school settings across North, West, South and Central Oxfordshire.
You will help children and young people with complex, severe and sometimes palliative health needs access education safely. The role is varied and autonomous, requiring specialist clinical care, education, training and leadership. Responsibilities include delivering high‑quality, child‑centred care; collaborating with families, schools and multidisciplinary teams; acting as a clinical resource; training and assessing others in healthcare tasks; managing a caseload; and contributing to service development.
You will join a supportive team with strong clinical leadership, clear multi‑locality structure, and benefit from term‑time only and flexible working arrangements. There are opportunities for advanced skills development in complex care, education and leadership.
You must be a Registered Children's Nurse with recent experience caring for children with complex needs, confident to work independently across school and community settings. Experience in community or special school nursing, training others, and multi‑agency working is highly desirable.
Main duties of the job
As a Special School Nurse, you will:
* Provide holistic nursing care to children and young people attending special schools, including assessment, planning, delivery and review of care.
* Act as a named or lead nurse for identified children with complex and ongoing health needs.
* Support schools to safely meet pupils' health needs by providing advice, training and competency assessment for staff undertaking healthcare tasks.
* Deliver specialist nursing interventions for children with complex or long‑term conditions where required.
* Work collaboratively with families, carers, education staff and a wide range of health and social care professionals.
* Manage your own caseload effectively, working as part of the wider Children's Community Nursing and locality teams.
* Contribute to service development, quality improvement, audit and student support.
* Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and promote children's rights in line with national and Trust policy.

Knowledge and Experience
* Acute paediatric nursing experience
* Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
* Evidence of clinical leadership
* Experience in education and training
* Experience in acting as a student nursing supervisor/ assessor
* Experience in acute settings eg: A+E, Clinical assessment units
Job related skills
* Awareness and acceptance of the rights and needs of service users and staff
* Awareness and acceptance of the rights and needs of Childrens Rights
* Ability to work in different environments
* Full UK driving licence and access to car
