Job description

Location: Working from home/ Kendal

About this opportunity

Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for a motivated and technically skilled individual to join our Road Safety and Projects Team as a Traffic Management Technician. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of key transport and road safety initiatives across the region, including the implementation of the 20mph speed limit policy and road safety improvements schemes.

As a Traffic Management Technician, you will be involved in the design, development, and implementation of both temporary and permanent traffic management schemes. Your work will include supporting the consultation and legal processes required for Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs and TTROs), as well as assisting with the delivery of road safety projects. You will work closely with the Officer and Team Leader for Road Safety and Projects to achieve a reduction in road traffic collisions across Westmorland and Furness, engaging with local communities, and ensuring that schemes are delivered efficiently and effectively.

Who we are looking for…

The role requires a good understanding of traffic management principles, road safety, and national highway design standards. You will need to be confident in analysing data, using CAD and GIS-based software, and providing technical advice to colleagues and stakeholders. Strong communication skills, the ability to manage workloads to tight deadlines, and a proactive, flexible approach are all key to success in this role.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking council that is committed to improving road safety and transport infrastructure. You will be joining a supportive team with a shared goal of delivering high-quality, community-focused projects. The role offers the chance to work on a wide range of schemes, from local safety improvements to major infrastructure projects.

What can we offer you!

Working at Westmorland and Furness Council you will receive a variety of benefits, including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and other various perks and discounts schemes.
