About the Role
You will be responsible for a wide range of vehicle related maintenance including:
Hydraulic and High Pressure Jetting Systems
* Possess in-depth knowledge of hydraulic systems, including pumps, hoses, and control mechanisms.
* Specialise in maintaining and troubleshooting high‑pressure jetting systems used in drain and sewer cleaning operations.
* Conduct regular inspections and testing to ensure optimal performance of hydraulic and jetting equipment.
Vehicle Maintenance
* Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of the company’s fleet of vehicles, with a particular emphasis on hydraulic components.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic and high‑pressure jetting system issues to ensure timely and effective repairs.
* Perform preventive maintenance tasks on hydraulic systems to maximise reliability.
Repair and Troubleshooting
* Respond promptly to breakdowns and emergencies involving hydraulic and jetting systems, providing on-site repairs to minimise downtime.
* Utilise diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and rectify technical issues related to high‑pressure equipment.
* Collaborate with the wider team to analyse recurring problems and implement preventive measures.
Legislation and Compliance
* Stay up‑to‑date with relevant legislation and industry standards related to hydraulic systems and high‑pressure jetting operations.
* Ensure all maintenance and repair activities comply with health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
* Implement and promote safe working practices among the team in accordance with legal requirements.
* Be aware of all Lanes Group policies and your responsibilities towards them.
About You
The ideal candidate will be hard‑working, respectful, and compliant with health and safety standards. You should have a strong background in commercial HGV vehicle servicing and possess the following:
* Class B Driving Licence and fully recognised industry qualifications (City & Guilds or industry equivalent).
* Class C+E / HGV Class 2 Driver’s Licence.
* IOSH or NEBOSH qualifications would be useful.
* Previous water industry experience preferred; hydraulics experience desirable.
Position Details
* Position: Fitter (also known as a HGV Field Service Engineer)
* Location: Based out of the Tonbridge depot (Tonbridge, Kent) but travelling across all of the Southern Water area covering Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
* Job Type: Permanent, full‑time
* Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours
* Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum (basic pay, overtime, on‑call allowance and bonuses)
