We have an exciting opportunity for an IT Business Partner to join our Technology, Security & Governance (TSG) department. This is a permanent role that can be based in either our London or Darlington office, with the flexibility to work on a hybrid or home‑based basis. It offers the opportunity to contribute within a dynamic, fast‑paced and evolving environment.
Who We Are
Our purpose is to secure our members’ future. This means we are supporting the members and pensioners of today, but also the 18‑year‑old who might join the industry tomorrow. Railpen is responsible for the safekeeping and investment of around £34 billion in assets and the administration of the Railways Pension Scheme, one of the UK’s largest and longest established pension funds. We also provide administration services to a wide variety of schemes across sectors outside of the rail industry.
Our heritage of supporting the pension needs of the rail industry and its employees gives us our name and drives our passion for how we serve our members. Railpen takes a holistic view, focusing on how we serve members today and how we can positively impact the communities and the world they will retire into.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our interactions with others. They are what we stand for.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of IT Business Relations & Consulting, this role is anticipated to be interchangeable and multifaceted, requiring flexibility to provide support across all areas within Railpen. The primary responsibility is to act as a liaison between business operations and TSG, ensuring technology solutions align with business strategies, driving operational efficiency, and delivering value to the organisation.
The Person
We are looking for candidates who have previous experience working in business partnering roles within Technology, Change or Finance, preferably with knowledge of financial services, pensions or investment & fiduciary business line operations. Collaborative, strategic thinkers who thrive on building meaningful relationships and driving positive outcomes are ideal. The role requires an understanding of IT concepts, processes, and best practices, as well as current and emerging technologies. Strong business acumen and analytical skills are essential, with the ability to translate business needs into IT solutions and strategies. Candidates should be able to see both the long‑term picture and short‑term details, determine whether business needs can be met by existing products, support business units with continuous improvement insights, surface new requirements, and shape technology demand to achieve positive business outcomes. A customer‑centric approach, resilience, and the ability to motivate teams to embrace innovative processes are key for success.
