Job Description Summary:

The mission of the Mason School of Business at the William & Mary is to serve the Commonwealth, the nation, and the global community both by offering high-quality educational programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels and by creating and communicating new knowledge.

The Associate Director of Development & Stewardship will utilize a data driven decision ­making process to advance the mission and goals of the Mason School of Business by coordinating, creating, managing, and executing cultivation, and donor stewardship initiatives, reporting and communications. This position is going to interact significantly with the School's largest benefactors.

Job Description:

The Associate Director of Development & Stewardship will utilize a data driven decision ­making process to advance the mission and goals of the Mason School of Business at William & Mary by coordinating, creating, managing, and executing cultivation, and donor stewardship initiatives, reporting and communications. This position is going to interact significantly with the School's largest benefactors.

Core responsibilities include:

* Provides leadership, initiative, and innovation to develop, manage, implement, execute, and evaluate all stewardship efforts,, processes, and systems for the Mason School of Business. This includes an emphasis on customized reporting for principal gift donors.

* Develops and oversees strategies to recognize, cultivate, and steward leadership donors to the Mason School of Business.

* Reporting & analysis to assess current stewardship programs. Works with engagement staff to assist in strategic events involving prospects and donors and acknowledgment of gifts, recognition of major gifts, and campaign gifts.

* Bachelor's degree with significant and progressively responsible professional experience and specialized expertise.

* Significant years of experience in non-profit fundraising, client relationship management, donor relations, or communication.

* Familiarity with databases and a thorough understanding of setting up processes and systems.

* Portfolio management experience that includes a variety of stewardship and donor relations pieces, including plans and strategies.

* Demonstrated successful management of client or donor relationships.

* Strong planning and project management skills with the ability to identify short and long-range goals and contribute to effective and measurable execution of outcomes.

* Strong computer proficiency in a variety of software applications including MS Office Suite.

* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse audience.

* Possession of diplomacy and tact when working with individuals on and off campus, and responding to donors.

* Strong organizational and attention to detail skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple assignments with competing deadlines and manage a team that works in concert to produce high-quality programs.

Preferred Qualifications: Please make sure your cover letter and resume clearly indicate whether you meet any of the preferred qualifications:

* Master's degree and experience in higher education.

* Specific software skills such as familiarity with content management systems, project management methodologies, event management, and knowledge of alumni, advancement, and student information systems.

* An in-depth understanding of best practices in stewardship and donor relations including analysis, assessment, and evaluation.

* Working knowledge of Advance donor software is preferred.

Salary Range: Up to $70,000, commensurate with experience.

Additional Job Description:

Conditions of Employment:

Flexible work hours due to weekend and after-hour events and up to 35% travel required. Remote work scheduling will be determined by the administration of the Mason School of Business.

This position may require additional hours beyond the typical 40 hour work week, to include occasional evening, night and weekend work, and/or overnight travel, as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.

This is a restricted position subject to the availability of funding.

Percentage Of Time Descriptions:

40% Donor Stewardship:

* Develops and oversees strategies to recognize, cultivate, and steward leadership donors,

* Create customized donor impact reports for high-level donors. This includes collecting, analyzing and reporting on qualitative data and reporting on the use of donor funds. The reports must be professional, persuasive, accurate, timely and require working with numerous partners to source data.

* Work with the engagement team to execute donor stewardship related special events for the Mason School of Business, including, the Dean's Circle donor recognition events, and Mason School campaign-related events. Work with Associate Dean for Advancement and gift officers to develop stewardship plans for principal gift donors as needed.

* Oversee, manage and implement activities to recognize loyal donors to the Mason School of Business.


25% Donor Communication:

* Manage a Mason community communication strategy as it relates to philanthropy and donor relationships. This might include tactics such as web and social media content, newsletters, holiday cards or other messaging for advancement purposes.

* Manage communication related to donor stewardship such as gift announcements and feature stories for publication, and web site content related to giving, This includes the honor role of donors publication, donor walls and other signed recognition

* Maintain giving web pages and generate content for social media related to giving.


25% Scholarship & Endowment Reporting:

* Partner with University Advancement mange the annual process of endowed gift reports. This includes collecting data and reporting on uses and impact of endowment gifts.

* Take the lead in tracking and reporting on scholarship recipient information to show impact for scholarship donors. This includes communicating with both student, donors and partner offices to report on student scholarships provided by donor funding. It also includes writing student biographies and managing a processes to facilitate students thank you notes to donors.


10% Gift Acknowledgement:

* Manage all gift acknowledgement processes for donations made to the Mason School of Business, including correspondence from the Dean of the Business School. This will entail drafting thank you letters and ensuring that they are personalized, accurate and timely and that every donor receives a proper thanks.
