Research Associate in Mechanical Engineering
Join to apply for the Research Associate in Mechanical Engineering role at The University of Manchester.
This is a post-doctoral position focused on developing a chemical reactor for analyzing heterogeneous reactive mixtures using novel high-resolution NMR techniques. Funded by The Leverhulme Trust, the project involves collaboration with researchers in NMR Spectroscopy and Organic Chemistry.
The Research Associate will work closely with Dr. Julien R. Landel at the Department of Mathematics, specializing in experimental fluid mechanics and multiphase flows, alongside teams in chemistry and NMR spectroscopy. The project aims to design, test, and develop a stirring fluid mechanics device to improve NMR analysis of heterogeneous mixtures, which are prevalent in many scientific and industrial fields.
Responsibilities include designing prototypes, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, analyzing fluid mechanics data, and contributing to research publications. Candidates should have or expect to soon obtain a PhD in mechanical engineering or fluid mechanics, demonstrate excellent teamwork skills, and be willing to contribute to the academic community through presentations and reports.
The role offers benefits such as a comprehensive pension scheme, health and wellbeing services, generous leave entitlement, and support for flexible working arrangements. The University values diversity and encourages applications from underrepresented groups, with a commitment to equality and inclusion.
Enquiries can be directed to Dr. Julien Landel at Julien.Landel@manchester.ac.uk or to the university’s recruitment email. The vacancy closes at midnight on the specified deadline.
