Role Overview

Position: Charging Systems Verification and Validation Engineer
Job Type: Permanent / Fixed term contract
Location: Gaydon, UK
Hours: 40 hours per week – full time


Responsibilities

* Execute validation and verification activities for charging systems, including DC‑DC converters, on‑board chargers (AC/ DC charging systems), charger types (CCS, CHAdeMO, Type‑2, GB/T, NACS, Type‑1) and BMS systems.
* Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on system requirements.
* Conduct vehicle‑level charging system software release tests for multiple teams/programs.
* Perform vehicle‑level testing using real EVSE, charging emulators, power analyzers, and diagnostic tools.
* Perform functional, performance, and robustness testing on EV charging systems.
* Capture logs, analyze data, and identify root causes of charging failures or communication issues.
* Verify SIMS/AIMS/BUGS issue fixes on vehicle/lab car/Vehicle In Loop.
* Work with cross‑functional teams (software, hardware, systems, diagnostics) to resolve defects.
* Ensure compliance with relevant standards (ISO 15118, IEC 61851, DIN 70121, ISO 26262).
* Prepare detailed test reports and present findings to engineering leadership and stakeholders.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of validation processes and procedures.
* Adopt and support a structured problem‑solving approach on various issue investigations reported by cross‑functional and central software integration teams.
* Support various charging systems and other modules responsible for charging feature integration activities across tests, properties, programs, and builds.
* Undertake any other work as directed by the line manager in connection with the role.


Qualifications

* Hands‑on experience with EV charging systems, power electronics, vehicle HV/electrical systems and high voltage systems (400/800V).
* Validation & verification experience preferably within the automotive industry.
* Working knowledge of power electronics hardware & software life‑cycle processes.
* Proficient in automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and Vector tools such as CANoe / CANalyser, PLC logging, ETAS INCA, Wireshark, MDA, UDS Diagnostics, DOIP.
* Strong knowledge of HV safety procedures and risk assessments (HV Authorized Person or Senior Authorized Person trained).
* Experience in vehicle‑level diagnostics, fault analysis, triaging, and stakeholder management of defect resolution.
* Working knowledge of ISO 15118, DIN 70121, IEC 61851, and ISO 26262 charging standards.
* Experience with charging protocols such as CCS (Combo), NACS, CHAdeMO, GB/T, Type‑2, Type‑1.
* Vehicle preparation with necessary software and hardware for testing.
* Coordination with workshop or instrumentation teams for hardware changes and specialized instrumentation (CAN, Ethernet, data loggers, ECU hardware replacement).
* Proficiency with test equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, EVSE charging simulators.
* Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system/sub‑system requirements.
* Experience working in an agile environment and using agile tools.
* Car driving licence holder (Desirable: Class 2 / Class 3 permit holder, UK Driving Licence).
* Willingness to travel as required with a positive attitude.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Proactive leadership in test activities.
* Capability to work independently in a fast‑paced development environment.
* Results‑driven disposition to deliver operational plans in a demanding context.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective at all levels.
* Highly flexible and adaptable to changing, fast‑paced environments, supporting customer and business needs.
* Relevant degree or equivalent experience in Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems, Mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
