ACS Publications is a Division of the ACS and has all the characteristics of a medium-large scientific and technical publishing organization. It is one of two Divisions charged with serving the dual function of generating a reliable annual surplus to support the Society’s programmatic activities, while also fulfilling a core goal of the Society in advancing knowledge in the field of chemistry and the chemical enterprise. The Division publishes 90+ high-quality peer-reviewed journals covering the breadth of chemistry and allied fields, as well as numerous other high-quality products and services of benefit to the global community.
The Associate Marketing Manager (Fixed Term) will support the execution of integrated marketing activities for ACS Publications journals. This individual will contribute to a wide range of campaign deliverables, including Calls for Papers, Special Issues, awareness day promotions, editor-facing communications, and conference sponsorship fulfillment.
Working closely with colleagues across Global Marketing, the Associate Marketing Manager will contribute to marketing initiatives that help drive submissions, article usage, citations, and general awareness of ACS Publications’ portfolio. This role focuses on delivering high-quality marketing assets, coordinating with internal stakeholders, and ensuring the smooth execution of campaign tasks.
This fixed term position is ideal for someone who is detail oriented, organized, proactive, and eager to deepen their experience in digital marketing within a mission driven scholarly publishing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing Campaign & Content Support
* Coordinate development of artwork and promotional assets for marketing campaigns, either by submitting clear briefs to the in-house design team or using creative automation platforms to generate templated assets.
* Develop copy for digital channels such as blogs, social media, digital advertising, and email, by gathering content from collaborators, drafting original copy, and proofreading copy produced by others.
* Manage assigned tasks and marketing campaign timelines in Asana, tracking deadlines, dependencies, and review cycles to deliver assets and tasks efficiently and according to schedule.
* Collaborate with colleagues across Global Marketing and Global Editorial Strategy to ensure on time delivery, accurate, and timely outputs for marketing campaigns, for example:
o Gathering quotes from Editorial colleagues;
o Coordinating with Product Marketing Managers for content and approval of campaign assets;
o Briefing campaign development to Marketing Operations
* Support with marketing for conference exhibits, including preparing shipment lists, coordinating updates to, and the production of event displays, and print and digital promotional materials.
* Build templated email HTMLs and create and update templated landing pages in Eloqua.
* Report on marketing activities as required.
* Prepare slide decks for presentations and reports, using established templates.
* Execute other marketing tactics, as briefed by Journal Marketing colleagues, across digital channels, including social media, email, and display advertising.
General Responsibilities
* Maintain clear, proactive communication with stakeholders to manage expectations and provide status updates.
* Accurately record and track budget spend.
* Attend meetings (virtual or in-person) as needed.
* Assist with additional marketing tasks that arise to support business needs.
Qualifications
Required
* Bachelor's degree or 2 years' experience in marketing, communications, or a related field.
* Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
* Foundational understanding of digital marketing channels (email, social media, web).
* Ability to brief in the design and refinement of marketing assets using templates and brand guidelines.
* Excellent attention to detail, including proofreading copy for promotional materials.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills
