Coathill Hospital
The Role
The post holder works as part of a team and provides care to the population throughout Lanarkshire. The post holder will provide a full range of therapist and hygienist services, as outlined in the GDC scope of practice, to a range of patients, both children and adult, and including additional needs, medically complex, anxious/phobic, priority groups such as prisoners and homeless, safety-net service, in-patients. The patients will be referred to the PDS from many sources, and the care will be primarily delivered on prescription from dentists within the PDS.
The post holder will be expected to have involvement in the development and delivery of Oral Health Improvement initiatives, new approaches to patient care and partnership working.
Following appropriate training and calibration, the post holder will be required to carry out detailed and basic National Dental Inspection Programme assessments.
The post holder will be expected to deliver care in a variety of sites, such as, but not exclusively, Prison, Hospitals, satellite clinics, schools, patients homes and residences, and other sites deemed appropriate.

Qualifications and Training
Essential:
1. Diploma or Degree qualification in Dental Therapy & Hygiene recognised by GDC
2. Registration with GDC and record of continued professional development
3. Must be willing to undertake any training that may be necessary to carry out the work effectively and efficiently
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
4. Knowledge of oral health strategies both local & national
5. Understanding of General Dental Services (GDS) regulations e.g. the Statement of Dental Remuneration (SDR)
6. Knowledge of current guidelines and policies affecting dental practice- e.g. GDC guidelines
7. Knowledge of working with a variety of patient groups and dental environments
Skills
Essential:
8. Proven ability as an effective communicator through a range of mediums, particularly written and verbal communication.
9. Good interpersonal skills including diplomacy and discretion
10. Effective team player
11. The ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team
12. Self-motivation, enthusiasm and use of initiative
13. The ability to prioritise ones own workload
14. Concern for, and understanding of, people and their rights
15. An adherence of both confidentiality issues and health, safety and environment issues in the workplace
16. Full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence - Provisional Licence not accepted
