Alexander Daniels is recruiting for an Assistant Purchasing Manager on behalf of a well-established organisation in Leicester. The company is seeking a commercially minded and proactive Assistant Purchasing Manager to support the Purchasing Manager in sourcing materials, equipment, and services. The role focuses on cost control, timely delivery, supplier management, and contributing to overall organisational efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support project teams in procuring materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
* Collaborate with design, estimating, operations, and commercial teams to understand project requirements and changes.
* Obtain, review, and present supplier quotes; negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms with key suppliers.
* Maintain accurate purchasing records and assist with reporting on costs, budgets, and savings opportunities.
* Contribute to developing and implementing purchasing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and delivery.
* Provide support and cover across the purchasing team; assist with mentoring and training junior staff.
* Ensure compliance with company policies, procurement best practices, and relevant regulations.
* Identify potential risks in supply chains and recommend mitigation strategies.
Experience & Skills:
* 2-3 years’ experience in a purchasing or procurement role.
* Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
* Knowledge of materials, equipment, and procurement processes.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; able to influence at all levels.
* Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Team-oriented with leadership potential and a commitment to developing others.
