Description
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Meet Boston Foundation/Director of Special Projects, the Director of Strategic Initiatives will manage special projects and activations for the Boston/Cambridge Tourism Destination Marketing fund.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned management professional with extensive knowledge of Boston and Cambridge and a track record for activating public spaces.
Responsibilities include
* Assisting the Executive Director of the Meet Boston Foundation with day-to-day functions of the TDMD including board member relations, meeting support and reporting.
* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to create a signature event that drives room nights during need periods and attracts new audiences from outside the region.
* Managing budgets, resources, and logistics required for event planning and execution. Ensuring efficient allocation of resources to maximize the impact of events while adhering to budgetary constraints.
* Ensuring that all events comply with relevant regulations, permits, and safety guidelines.
* Working with special event organizers to ensure maximum ROI on Meet Boston/TDMD funding as it relates to generating tourism activity and economic impact.
* Obtaining all necessary permits and licenses as required from local government agencies (Entertainment, Fire, Inspectional Services, Parks and Transportation)
* Attending community meetings with local civic groups to make them aware of activations and serve as a liaison for any community concerns.
* Regular communication with the Director of the Meet Boston Foundation and the TDMD board on activation proposals.
* Working with event management firms to develop and promote new events in the market to drive overnight stays and economic activity.
* Researching and securing new funding opportunities for Meet Boston Foundation related to the organization's core priorities around diversity, equity and inclusion, workforce development, sustainability and accessibility.
Essential Skills
* Intimate knowledge of the cities of Boston and Cambridge and their key tourism assets.
* In depth understanding of event development and management, and knowledge of city and state permitting requirements
* Strong communication skills with government agencies and department heads.
* Demonstrate proficiency in activations, programming and permitting in Boston.
* A relationship builder with a background in Intergovernmental relations and public/private partnerships.
* Experience operating within a non-profit organization
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
* Exceptional written and oral communication skills
* A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in programming and activations
* Solid fiscal management
* Experience working with 501c6 and/or 501c3 boards of directors.
* Extensive background and experience in managing and developing community and signature events.
