Overview
WSP is seeking an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer at Associate Director grade to join the Maritime team based in the UK. You will contribute to a wide range of UK-based and international projects for clients including local authorities, private clients and international terminal operators. You will be involved in all stages of project maturity, including feasibility studies, concept designs, FEED studies, value engineering and detailed design. The role is hybrid, with site visits around the UK and travel to overseas projects as needed.
Responsibilities
* Prepare electrical deliverables such as single line diagrams, cable calculations, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing and containment design, switchgear configurations, and bill of materials/quantities in accordance with international standards and client requirements.
* Draft electrical specifications and review contractor design submissions against Employer’s Requirements and relevant standards, practices, and codes.
* Collaborate with equipment vendors on developing equipment package designs and participate in technical evaluations of vendor designs.
* Assess the condition of electrical assets and designs for capability, risk, opportunity and intervention needs; develop project management skills through client engagement.
* Coordinate with owners, operators, investors, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality electrical outputs.
* Travel to sites within the UK and on overseas projects as required; work within a collaborative, inclusive environment.
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject with significant post-graduate experience in electrical design, operation, maintenance or testing.
* Attainment of or working towards professional registration with the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) at Chartered (CEng) or related level; membership in a relevant engineering institute (IET).
* Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/CEng and membership of a relevant engineering institute.
* Ability and desire to lead the development of electrical deliverables and assess assets under construction or in operation.
* Knowledge of design, construction and operation of power and energy projects; experience on maritime projects (e.g., container terminals, liquid and dry bulk terminals, offshore wind, ro-ro).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; capable of delivering quality technical outputs and solutions; able to coordinate with multiple disciplines and team members.
* Proficiency with MS Office and one or more design tools: AutoCAD, Revit, AMTECH ProDesign, ETAP, PSCAD, PowerFactory (DIgSILENT), Dialux/Relux.
* Effective communication in English, both verbal and written; personable, approachable, enthusiastic and empathetic.
