Senior Construction Safety & Building Safety Consultant (CDM / Project Safety Hybrid)
Location: London and South East (with travel across the region)
We are seeking a Senior Construction Safety & Building Safety Consultant to provide a hybrid service across CDM advisory, project safety oversight, and building safety compliance. The role supports clients across all project stages, from early design risk reviews through construction delivery and handover, ensuring safe, compliant, and coordinated outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Pre-Construction (CDM):
* Support designers and clients with design risk reviews, early hazard identification and safe design solutions.
* Contribute to the development of Pre-Construction Information and design-stage risk documentation.
* Review and provide input to Design Risk Registers, highlighting buildability, sequencing and maintenance risks.
* Attend and contribute to Design Team Meetings (DTMs) and technical workshops.
Project Safety & Construction Delivery:
* Provide project-level safety oversight, ensuring contractor compliance, safe sequencing, and risk mitigation on site.
* Review RAMS, Construction Phase Plans, permits and high-risk activities with a focus on technical buildability.
* Conduct site visits, inspections and audits aligned to client requirements and statutory obligations.
* Advise on safe methods of work, temporary works coordination, and integration of design intent during construction.
Building Safety & Compliance:
* Support compliance with the Building Safety Act, Gateway processes and Golden Thread requirements.
* Assist with fire safety information, façade remediation considerations, and building fabric safety issues.
* Review and support the completion of Health & Safety Files and operational safety documentation for handover.
Client Advisory & Communication:
* Provide clear, practical advice to clients, designers and contractors across all dutyholder responsibilities.
* Produce high-quality reports, audits and recommendations for safer delivery and maintenance outcomes.
* Coordinate stakeholders across design, construction and FM to ensure consistent safety and compliance.
Skills & Experience
Candidates may come from a CDM, architectural, engineering, project management, health & safety, or building safety background, provided they can demonstrate:
* Strong understanding of CDM 2015 and design-stage risk management.
* Experience supporting construction safety on active projects.
* Ability to review and challenge designs, methods, RAMS, and buildability risks.
* Exposure to Building Safety Act requirements, fire/facade remediation or safety case development (desirable).
* Confident stakeholder management across design teams, contractors and client bodies.
* Relevant professional membership, such as APS, RIBA, IOSH, NEBOSH, CMaPS or equivalent experience.
Qualifications
* CMaPS qualification (or working towards), preferably with APS membership.
* IOSH membership is advantageous.
* Relevant construction, design, or safety qualification (H&S, engineering, architecture, etc.) is beneficial.
