About the role: We're looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical & Instrumentation Technician to join our East area operations team. In this role, you'll carry out maintenance, fault-finding and repair activities on electrical, control and instrumentation systems to ensure the continuous and safe operation of our gas transmission assets.
Key responsibilities: Perform planned preventative maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults to minimise downtime Calibrate, test, and maintain instrumentation to ensure compliance with operational standards Assist with installation, commissioning, and modifications of E&I equipment Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation Support operational teams during planned shutdowns and emergency repairs
Travel will be a key part of this role, as you'll be covering multiple sites across the 'East 3' region of the UK - ranging from Lutton to Roudham Heath to Peters Green. Your primary base, or 'hub', will be either the Huntingdon or Cambridge Compressor Station (depending on your location), which is centrally located within the area you'll be supporting. You may also be required to participate in a standby rota 1 week in every 4 or 5, dealing with various faults for which you will get additional compensation for.
You’ll also need to attend training courses at various locations to support your ongoing development and build your knowledge and experience.
What we're looking for: Essential - Time-served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an electrical or instrumentation discipline BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an electrical or instrumentation discipline Worked in industries including (but not limited to) FMCG, the broader utilities, military or aviation Strong knowledge of ATEX regulations and hazardous area equipment Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems, fault-finding and calibration Familiarity with safety management systems and permit-to-work procedures Full UK car driving licence
Desirable - Possess an in date certificate in any of the following: Compex EX01 - 04 Hazardous Equipment C&G 2391 Inspection & Testing C&G 2377 PAT Testing BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Compex EX01 - 04 Hazardous Equipment Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or other similar process) industry Knowledge of SCADA or control systems
