The Band 6 Endoscopy Sister/Charge Nurse is an experienced registered nurse responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred care within the Endoscopy Unit. The post holder supports the Unit Manager in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of endoscopy services, maintaining compliance with JAG standards, infection prevention, and Trust policies.
Responsibilities and Leadership
* Lead the team in the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based patient care.
* Communicate effectively, including in circumstances where communication is complex or sensitive.
* Provide and receive information that may be distressing to patients, relatives or staff with professionalism and compassion.
* Deliver high-quality care in a dynamic environment, ensuring safe use of equipment and resources.
* Administer medication safely in accordance with Trust Medicines Management Policy.
* Act as a mentor, supervisor, and educator to students and staff, supporting competency development.
* Implement Trust policies and participate in service improvement initiatives.
* Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with recruitment, retention, performance management, supervision, and development of staff.
* Participate in budgetary awareness, resource management, duty rotas and safe staffing allocation.
* Contribute to Clinical Governance, incident reporting, risk management, and quality improvement.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and well-documented patient records.
* Support patient and public involvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
* Provide clinical leadership that motivates and inspires others.
* Ensure staff have the skills and knowledge to care for acutely unwell patients.
* Participate in the development and delivery of education and training programmes within the unit.

* Hold or work towards a recognised mentorship/teaching qualification.
* Engage actively in mandatory training, speciality-specific training, endoscopy-related courses, and leadership/management development.

* Contribute to workforce planning, sickness management, staff appraisals, and performance reviews.
* Support the Senior Sister in financial sustainability and budget management.
* Assist with audits, quality monitoring, and service development initiatives.
* Provide leadership during shifts, coordinating staff, patient activity, and clinical priorities.

* Lead and support the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care.
* Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Remain calm and resilient during challenging situations, supporting junior staff appropriately.
* Ensure compliance with the NMC Code and act as a positive role model.
* Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, delivering evidence-based care.
* Demonstrate awareness of workforce planning and willingness to act up in the absence of senior colleagues.
Communications and Working Relationships
* Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, patients and carers, community and support services, education providers, PALS, clinical endoscopists and nurse specialists, consultants and medical staff, network groups, medical representatives, and others.
* Lead the team effectively under pressure while managing own and others' time.
* Manage challenging situations professionally, resolving issues constructively.
* Support the Ward Manager in the management of staffing, resources, and patient flow.
General Working Conditions
* Comply with manual handling guidelines.
* Frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg with appropriate aids.
* Work in environments with exposure to bodily fluids, infection risks and unpleasant conditions.
* Work in confined spaces when required.
* Adapt to unpredictable work patterns, including participation in on‑call rotas.
* Work varied shifts including weekends, nights, and bank holidays.
* Manage exposure to distressing situations involving patients, relatives and staff.
* Demonstrate effective time management.
