Offer description

As a Medical Technical Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the analysis of pathology samples by preparing instrumentation, reagents, and specimens. You will be responsible for managing departmental materials, including the receipt, storage, and inventory control of laboratory consumables. Ensuring the smooth flow of specimens through the laboratory, you will contribute to maintaining operational efficiency. Additionally, you will assist in coordinating laboratory activities to support seamless workflow. Your role will also include performing general laboratory duties as required by the laboratory manager or their designated deputy.

About the Role

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated, hard‑working, and detail‑driven individual to join one of the UK’s most dynamic pathology services. Working as part of a supportive team within modern laboratories and using advanced technology, the service processes approximately 94,000 blood tests each day, helping to deliver accurate diagnostics and high‑quality patient care.

Our department is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for translational research, with significant expertise in diabetes and gastroenterology autoimmunity. We have a strong collaborative relationship with the University of Exeter Medical School, and our laboratory plays a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive research and development analytical service, supporting clinical trials and translating diagnostic research into practical applications. In 2021, we were proud to receive the HSJ Acute Sector Innovation of the Year Award for creating a remote blood testing service for paediatric patients with rare diseases, ensuring vital access to care during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a forward-thinking and supportive team. Based in Exeter, you’ll enjoy the benefits of a vibrant city surrounded by the stunning Devon countryside and Southwest coastline.
