Job Description

New Directions are currently recruiting for a Food Technology Technician to work in a Secondary school based in Stockport. The role is starting in January on a full time, long term basis until July 2026.

Role Overview:

The Food Technician will play an integral role in assisting the Food Technology department in delivering high-quality practical lessons to students. You will support teaching staff in preparing and setting up food-based lessons, managing stock, ensuring health and safety compliance, and providing technical assistance to students during practical sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare, set up, and clean down food technology classrooms and workstations for practical lessons.
2. Assist teachers during food technology lessons, offering support to students and ensuring safe food preparation practices.
3. Maintain and monitor food stock levels, order supplies, and ensure that equipment is well-maintained and functional.
4. Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines, including the safe storage and handling of food and equipment.
5. Provide technical support for students, guiding them on practical tasks and techniques.
6. Assist with the development of new resources and lesson plans as required.
7. Support the development of students’ skills and knowledge in food preparation, nutrition, and kitchen safety.

Key Requirements:

8. A strong interest in food technology or related fields.
9. Previous experience in a food-related or technical role, ideally within an educational setting.
10. Good knowledge of food safety standards and health and safety regulations.
11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
12. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
13. A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused approach to work.
14. A willingness to engage in ongoing professional development.

Desirable:

15. Experience working in a school environment or with young people.
16. A Food Safety or Hygiene qualification (Level 2 or above).
