JGP has a rare and exciting opportunity to join their growing team of structural engineers operating throughout the beautiful SW of England, and sometimes beyond! With a broad range of interesting projects, every day is different. Where else would a structural engineer want to be?
Reporting to the structures department head, you will take on a key role within our structural engineering department, managing and delivering your own projects from inception through to construction or collaborating as part of a larger team to deliver schemes on time and within budget.
Day-to-Day Duties:
1. Deliver structural design and detailing of projects independently or as part of a team.
2. Collaborate with Civil and Geotechnical departments to deliver projects.
3. Travel to and attend sites for survey works, inspections, monitoring, meetings, etc.
4. Work with industry partners such as architects, contractors, and engineers to meet client requirements.
5. Maintain professionalism and build relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and JGP staff.
6. Assist with fee quotations and bid documents to secure new work.
7. Ensure designs comply with current codes and regulations.
8. Ensure projects and site works adhere to health and safety standards, promoting awareness among colleagues and project teams.
9. Identify opportunities for additional work or client benefits.
10. Support JGP Civil and Geotechnical departments as appropriate.
11. Stay updated with industry innovations through CPD and training.
Skills and Attributes:
1. Proficiency in designing reinforced concrete structures such as multi-storey buildings, tanks, podia, and transfer decks.
2. Ability to work independently or as part of a team, either as a lead or supporting engineer.
3. Familiarity with 3D design software like Masterseries and SCIA Engineer.
4. Proficiency in AutoCAD for producing construction-quality drawings.
5. Knowledge of CADS RC and Revit is advantageous but not essential.
6. Good written English skills for report writing.
7. Professional, punctual, motivated, and capable of managing others.
8. Ability to design using steel, concrete, timber, and masonry in accordance with British Standards and Eurocodes, with willingness to learn where needed.
9. Full driving license is essential.
Required Qualifications:
Relevant engineering degree with at least 3 years (preferably 5) of post-graduate experience in an engineering design consultancy. Chartered or working towards Chartered status in MIStructE or MICE.
