J needs help eating, washing and toileting. Occasionally he gets distressed on family days out and would need his Carer to help comfort or distract him. Having a Carer for J will allow the family to spend more time together. J requires help with transfers. J is a wheelchair user, but the Carer does not need to have a wheelchair car as we will provide transport for J. The successful candidate will be responsible to J's parents. In the course of the work the Carer will have access to sensitive and confidential information. This should not be discussed outside of work unless disclosure is in the best interests of J or his siblings i.e. due to a safeguarding issue.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Help J eat his tea
* Help J get ready for bed (shower, brush teeth, change nappy, put on pyjamas)
* Help J use the toilet
* Shower J
* Brush J's teeth
* And get him ready in his pyjamas
* Take J to the local park in his wheelchair, he enjoys the basket swing
Family Day Out Duties
* Help J eat, drink and use the toilet
* Look after J if he becomes distressed
* Ability to work unsupervised and take initiative
* Able to communicate effectively in English
* Flexibility around job role and hours to suit the needs of the family as well as J
* Ability to attend the family home
Desirable Criteria
* CPD Manual handling qualification
* Previous experience in a caring role
* Ability to attend family days out
J is ten years old, he is a happy sociable little boy. He sleeps and eats well. He enjoys lots of things but especially water, music, singing and clapping. J has Pitt Hopkins Syndrome. He cannot walk or talk but he communicates his needs in his own way once you get to know him and he bum shuffles to great effect.
J lives with his parents, three older siblings and a family pet (a Jack Russell named Rocco) in the family home in Wetherden near Stowmarket. Most of the work will take place in our family home but also on family days out with J.
Pay & Benefits
* We are able to offer 5 hours a week at £13.88 an hour. This will be flexible and determined monthly in advance by discussion between the Carer and the employer. The shifts will take the pattern of two 2 and a 1/2 hour shifts during the evenings Monday to Thursday, or a 5 hour afternoon during the weekend (Saturday or Sunday) or potentially saved for a full day (7 to 10 hours) of support for a family day out.
* Pay rate: £13.88 per hour
* Annual leave: The annual holiday entitlement for this position will be equivalent to the work normally done during 5.6 weeks (statutory entitlement).
* Expenses: You will be reimbursed for prior agreed expenses incurred as part of the role.
* Sick pay: Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) available if eligibility criteria met; no private sick pay scheme.
* Pension: NEST pension scheme fulfilment of statutory obligations (no private pension scheme).
* Background check: A satisfactory Enhanced with Barred List(s) Disclosure and Barring Service check is required for this position.
