New Directions Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teacher to work across a range of specialist and inclusive schools in the Leeds area. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and committed to delivering personalised, inclusive education.
About the Role
As a SEND Teacher, you will provide tailored teaching and support to pupils with a variety of additional needs, ensuring they can access education in a way that suits their individual strengths and challenges.
Your responsibilities will include:
-Planning and delivering creative, differentiated lessons that meet a wide range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and moderate to complex learning needs
-Creating a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that supports learning, independence, and emotional wellbeing
-Teaching pupils in small class sizes, allowing for a more personalised and nurturing approach
-Developing and implementing EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and personalised learning strategies
-Assessing and tracking pupil progress, celebrating achievements and identifying next steps
-Adapting teaching methods and resources to suit individual learning styles and abilities
-Working closely with teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies to provide holistic support
-Supporting pupils’ communication, social skills, and independence development
-Using a range of strategies, including sensory approaches, structured routines, and visual aids, to support engagement
-Building strong relationships with pupils, parents, and carers to create a supportive learning network

You may be placed in a variety of specialist and inclusive environments, including:
Special schools catering to a range of SEND needs
Resource provisions within mainstream schools
Specialist units for pupils with autism or complex needs
These settings offer supportive teams, excellent facilities, and a strong focus on pupil wellbeing and progress.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for individuals who:
-Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
-Have experience working with pupils with SEND
-Are patient, nurturing, and adaptable in their approach
-Have a strong understanding of inclusive teaching practices
-Can effectively differentiate learning to meet diverse needs
-Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
-Are passionate about supporting and inspiring children with additional needs
Experience in specialist settings is desirable, but not essential for the right candidate with a strong interest in SEND.
