Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join Chalkhill, our 12‑bed Tier 4 General Adolescent Unit based at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.
Chalkhill is entering an exciting phase of service strengthening, innovation and pathway redesign, and this role offers the opportunity to contribute to the future development of inpatient CAMHS within a supportive and forward‑thinking service.
About the role
As Consultant Psychiatrist at Chalkhill, you will provide clinical leadership within a specialist inpatient service supporting young people aged 13–18 with complex mental health needs.
Working alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering safe, evidence‑based care while contributing to service development and quality improvement.
* Providing clinical leadership for the multidisciplinary inpatient team
* Leading formulation, risk management and treatment planning
* Working collaboratively with families, community CAMHS teams and partner agencies
* Supervising junior doctors and contributing to teaching and training
* Participating in audit, research and quality improvement initiatives
* Participating in the CAMHS Consultant on‑call rota (currently 1:9 with compensatory rest)
There is flexibility to explore bespoke job planning, including potential shared arrangements across inpatient and acute CAMHS services where this supports service continuity and candidate preference.

This role attracts a Recruitment and Retention Package of £45,000, paid over three years:

About you
You will be a Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, with GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within six months).
You will demonstrate:
* Strong clinical expertise in CAMHS and complex mental health presentations
* Excellent leadership and multidisciplinary team working
* Commitment to teaching, training and professional development
* Experience contributing to service improvement and clinical governance
* Ability to work collaboratively with families and partner agencies
Approved Clinician status (or ability to achieve within three months) is required.
