Our client – a highly respected planning and development consultancy based in Manchester – is looking to add an enthusiastic Assistant Town Planner to their growing team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside industry-leading professionals on a diverse range of projects across the North West, from major mixed-use and residential schemes to innovative regeneration and sustainability-led developments.
The Role
As an Assistant Town Planner, you’ll support the preparation, submission, and management of planning applications, appeals, and development plan representations. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on complex projects while developing your technical skills and professional judgement in a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the preparation and coordination of planning applications and supporting documents.
2. Conduct site appraisals, research, and policy analysis.
3. Draft planning statements and contribute to development proposals.
4. Liaise with clients, local authorities, and other consultants.
5. Support senior planners with stakeholder engagement and public consultation.
6. Stay up to date with local and national planning policy developments.
About You
You’ll be an enthusiastic team player with a genuine passion for planning and placemaking. This role suits someone looking to progress toward RTPI chartership while gaining exposure to a wide range of projects and clients.
Essential:
7. Degree (and ideally Master’s) in Town Planning or a related discipline.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
9. Strong analytical and organisational abilities.
10. A good understanding of the UK planning system.
11. Ambition to work toward MRTPI accreditation.
Desirable:
12. 6–18 months’ experience within a planning consultancy or local authority.
13. Working knowledge of planning software and development management processes.
