Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team, overseeing the day-to-day activities of the regime. This role involves working alongside regulatory reform initiatives and helping the team transition from reform to ‘business as usual’.
Responsibilities:
1. Waste classification technical leadership
2. Technical leadership for Hazardous Waste compliance and initiatives to improve compliance
3. Leadership of priority waste streams
4. Providing technical support on priority waste streams, driven by area and national teams
5. Addressing regulatory challenges, improving the regulatory regime, and supporting Defra’s circular economy work in Hazardous Waste
6. Enforcement focus to support actions in the control strategy to reduce offending
The team
The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small, high-performing team within the Regime Regulation team of E&B Waste Regulation. We lead on hazardous waste management, supporting government, industry, and colleagues to ensure proper handling of hazardous waste. We foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture, using evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation.
Experience and Skills Required

* Knowledge of environmental legislation, especially waste management laws
