Purpose of the Role
* To set direction and design solutions for GTSM IT systems and/or platforms, using industry-leading approaches to meet challenging functional and non-functional requirements.
Rationale
* Given the critical importance of Technology Service Management (GTSM) for Barclays, it is essential to appoint a Principal Architect.
* As capabilities within Group Tech evolve, including Cloud, Storage, Networks, and other platforms like XDP and EDP, advancing the underlying architecture of GTSM is crucial.
* This role supports our Group Technology strategy to maintain trust in technology services by enhancing security, resilience, service engineering standards, and risk mitigation.
* Failing to establish this role may lead to sub-optimal development of GTSM's foundational capabilities.
Additional Role Purpose
To set direction and design solutions for the bank's most complex IT systems and platforms, responding to the most challenging requirements.
Accountabilities
* Define GTSM's strategic architecture for specific technology areas, such as trading platforms.
* Provide deep technical expertise in designing and evaluating complex architectures, overseeing solution architects, and promoting learning within the GTSM community.
* Manage innovative design and complex projects by collaborating with technical experts to resolve issues supporting the bank's technology strategy.
* Develop and promote architectural standards, guidelines, and governance policies to ensure quality and compliance.
* Identify emerging technology trends and implement solutions aligned with strategic objectives.
* Maintain relationships with business partners, architects, and engineering teams to ensure successful design and adoption.
* Communicate architectural decisions clearly to advocate for optimal solutions.
* Support community initiatives to mentor team members and share knowledge.
Director Expectations
* Manage GTSM, contributing to strategic initiatives, and influencing policies and procedures.
* Lead a large team or projects, acting as a technical expert and thought leader, and coaching less experienced staff.
* Provide advice to senior management and influence decisions outside the immediate function.
* Manage resourcing, budgeting, and policies for a significant sub-function.
* Ensure compliance with policies and regulations, and influence external environment considerations.
* Demonstrate understanding of how the function aligns with overall business objectives and industry practices.
* Use analytical skills to solve complex problems and make strategic decisions.
* Negotiate and influence stakeholders at senior levels.
* Act as a principal contact and spokesperson for the function.
