Chester Race Company are proud to present an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the Maintenance team as a Gardener on a permanent contract, based in the heart of Chester. If you have a good eye for detail and presentation, this is the perfect role for you!
The Gardener will play a pivotal role in ensuring our site and grounds are maintained to the highest of standards, including planting, landscaping and maintenance of all garden areas and plants. This role will be looking after the grounds for both Chester and Bangor on Dee Racecourse.

General responsibilities include:
* Ensure our sites are presented in a beautiful manner with the use of flowers, plants and planting techniques
* Helping with hard and soft landscaping and general maintenance of the venue, such as mulching, pruning, leaf clearing and weeding
* Develop, enhance and conserve the site and contribute to the delivery of projects
* Support with the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants.
* Ownership of specific areas of the venue ensuring the highest standards are maintained and healthy plants are available for our visitors to enjoy
* Display high standards of personal presentation and conduct when working at the venue
Skills and Attributes we are looking for:
* Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience (e.g. NVQ 1-2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent level of vocational experience)
* RHS Level 2 or equivalent
* Knowledge of Health and Safety & compliance requirements
* Self-composure in all situations is integral due to the high-pressure working environment
* Good knowledge of plant husbandry and horticultural techniques. Knowledge of a wide range of horticultural techniques covering a range of plant types. Artistic plantsman ship/ design skills will be required
* Competence with machinery/ equipment use and maintenance including tractors, chainsaws and pedestrian mowers
* Passionate, enthused and knowledgeable about the varied plants within the venue

Salary: £25,600 - £28,400 per annum
Hours of work:
37.5 hours per week, working hours are 08:00 - 16:30
Evening week as required.
This role is based at Chester Racecourse and Bangor on Dee Racecourse therefore a reliable commute to both Racecourses is essential.
