About us

An exciting opportunity has come up in the Peoples Directorate to recruit two Travel Trainers. This is an excellent opportunity to join our new in-house Independent Travel Training service and help make a difference in the lives of children and young people in Warrington, including Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND).

Through 1-1 guidance and support, the team will be assisting children and young people with a variety of needs to travel independently, thereby enabling them access education, training, work and social activities, improving their independence and preparation for life opportunities.


The role

You will be engaging with young people and their parents/guardians, offering guidance and support, helping them to overcome barriers and making appropriate choices in relation to independent travel. You will be completing individual assessments, ensuring children and young people are included and 'have a voice' in identifying their individual support needs, preferences and choices which are developed into travel training plans.

You will complete robust risk assessments, addressing risks and ensuring safeguarding is accounted for in all travel plans.

You will be working with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including schools, colleges, health professionals and education services, ensuring a collaborative and partnership approach through effective communication.


What's needed?

You will have a Level 2 Certificate in supporting teaching and learning in schools and continuous professional development. You will have experience of supporting and mentoring children and young people, especially SEND. You will have an empathetic approach and have exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build trust. You will have experience of planning and implementing risk assessments for activities, and are able to deal with complex and challenging situations, ensuring the safeguarding of any child/young person in your care.
