Maintenance Mechanic Location: Cumberland, WI Facility: Green Bean Processing Plant Openings: 1 Type: Full-time, hourly About the Role This is a hands-on Maintenance Mechanic role supporting a seasonal green bean cannery. The plant operates year-round with a defined pack season that requires longer hours and high reliability. This role is a strong fit for mechanics who value stability, predictable schedules most of the year, and overtime during pack, and who take pride in showing up, learning, and doing the job right. Cannery experience is helpful but not required. Work ethic, integrity, and mechanical aptitude matter most. Schedule and Hours Pack Season Approx. July through September 12-hr shifts Day shift: 5:30am to 6:00pm Night shift: 5:30pm to 6:00am Employees stay on their assigned shift for the entire pack season Typical weekly hours average around 60 hrs Days off follow a rotating pattern, generally: 7 on / 2 off Occasional 3-day weekends, not guaranteed Off-Pack Season Approx. October through June 4x10 schedule Monday through Thursday 40 hrs per week Limited weekend work This schedule is emphasized clearly during interviews so there are no surprises. Pay Typical starting range: $26.00 to $28.00/hr Night shift differential: $0.30/hr Top end: Up to $30.00/hr Reserved for strong, relevant experience Cannery or closely related food manufacturing backgrounds Rates above $30/hr are case by case and require additional approvals Most new hires do not start at the top of the range. Raises are typically evaluated after completing a full pack season, with merit increases possible based on performance. What You Will Work On Inspect, maintain, and repair processing and packaging equipment Troubleshoot mechanical issues impacting production Support uptime during pack and major maintenance projects during off-pack Perform preventive maintenance and document work accurately Work on sorters, encoders, and mechanical systems requiring higher technical aptitude Support equipment rebuilds, installs, and upgrades Follow food safety, GMP, and safety standards Work closely with other mechanics and production teams This is a team-based maintenance environment. Mechanics are not expected to troubleshoot everything alone. Backgrounds That Can Be a Fit You do not need prior cannery experience to be hired. Good backgrounds include: Ag mechanics Automotive mechanics Industrial or manufacturing maintenance Military technicians with mechanical or technical training Machinist-style skill sets for more exacting mechanical work Specialty skills are valued but rare. The plant is willing to build and train the right people.
